Hello,
My friend says that he has opened the ports from the modem and still when he sets up the server we cannot connect to it. We cannot connect to it and he himself cannot connect to it either.

Can you connect to localhost? To test this, go in to rtr's multiplayer menu, in the server address, type localhost, set the port to whatever you have set, and try to connect to it.

Oh no! Somebody released the h key! Everybody run and hide!

Make sure to open the ports in Windows firewall as well. Windows firewall, especially in Windows 10 is a bitch. It blocks programs even when you turn it off...

Best regards SLJ.

Hi,My friend has opened both the ports on the modem and on the firewall but we cannot connect to the server. He is able to connect using localhost. Can anyone give step by step, detailed instructions on how to create a server

2017-07-21 07:57:59

We already have given you all the instructions. If you can't connect, the ports are not open. Routers are very different, which is the reason for we can't give you more instructions. One thought might be if he only have opened the ports, but not opened them for his computers internal IP. Then the router might not know what internal IP the ports are opened for.
An other thought might be if you are trying to connect to his internal and not the external IP.

Best regards SLJ.

hey, loool this is a pretty old topic I know, but what port are you trying to connect to? 6789? and do you run the same version of the client as the server? because there are lots of different rtr vers available. but I can't really help, when I made one it worked fine, so yeah.

what is the point of bringing it up this topic?

damn maybe he has already figured it out but didn't say it in here.

You just need to enable UPNP in your router and than just use the portforwarder by Mason.

Awesome, you made it to the end!

Here is my version of the server program by the way, it's unchanged except for improved documentation and a better example config.
Delete your server folder before unzipping this.

Oh and, if you like the accessibility of that file hosting site the way I do... Here is my topic about it that explains the pro's and con's vs Dropbox. (it's mostly better)
