Hi guys,
So I'd like to have a way for people to communicate with me during podcasts. Since I am streaming this in audio, I will obviously need an external chat service.
Does anyone know of a good solution - one where I would be able to create and host a chat room, be and assign moderators, and have people chat? Also it obviously should be accessible.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated!

Zoom would work for this purpose. The audio quality is awesome and it supports stereo audio. You can send a link to people and they can join without creating an account. Zoom is mainly aimed at businesses, but it works really well with screen readers on all platforms. It's available on Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, and Linux.

The only downside is that meetings with more than two participants time out after 40 minutes unless you pay for the Pro plan priced at $15 a month. I personally don't find the need to do this as I usually talk to just a single person, but the price won't break the bank and you can have up to 100 participants in a meeting. There are also additional things you can buy that allow you to call phone numbers and do other things.

Hi Chris,
Thanks. However, and I probably should've clarified, I'm looking for something text based.

You can try and make an IRC server, PG13 is doing it.
However I don't know where to get the server for that and stuff tbh.

Hi
Why not just discord?

kind regards and have a nice day,

@5, accessible IRC clients are paid. @6, discord is currently majorly fumbling in accessibility, though they do seem to care at least a little and have fixed something.

Lots of people just use a Twitter hashtag for chat for podcasts. Some use IRC.

For free IRC clients...

You can use

http://www.instantbird.com/

, which is similar to Pigeon Instant Messsenger in how it works.

For other good ones, check out the PG13's Chat page:

https://www.pg13lp.com/irc/

, simply substitute their server instructions with your own server info.

Lastly, there's Chatzilla for Firefox/Seeamonkey (though see the notice on the page,) and for Chrome users see
http://www.ilovefreesoftware.com/07/fea … hrome.html
, for a nice list!

Thanks guys!
I did manage to get a discord server up, and I had also of course given out my twitter. I figured out that to use Discord i'd have to either get the app, or use it on chrome, as with firefox it behaves really strangely. Secondly yes it does fumble with accessibility (a lot of unlabeled buttons put in weird places), but yeah. big_smile It and my twitter work for chatting. There's a link to the server on my site.

thanks @9, I stand corrected. Are they efficient? I don't really have occasion to use IRC so I haven't downloaded them.
