@Dark:

I will see whether I would need it in the future or not. besides, I heard from my teacher that algorithms require just as much as calculation, on which I am already good at.

on other stuff, I heard about a report on global warming, that by 2030, the tempreture of the Earth would increase to 1 digree or something, and we wouldn't be able to live without AC.

as usual, the increase in tempreture doesn't mean that the above problem would be the only one. drouts will be much more harsher, sea level would rise much more faster, and living in the world would be more problematic then it already is. the thing which bothers me that when I try to discuss these topics with people, most of their attitudes are, "Yeah, whatever."

but the thing is, our parents and grand parents wouldn't be the point of focus then on, we would be. so naturally, the responsibility to fix the mess would fall upon our generation. but people are not willing to take that responsibility.

as grim side note, I hope politicians are the ones who suffer most in that outcome.

Politicians suffer Dark eagle? Since when, the only thing politicians risk suffering is not being elected, which means going home to retire with their huge somes of money, or take up even higher paid work for other political  bodies the once prime minister of the labour party, the so called left wing socialist party that is supposed to be for workers rights, is now a multi millionaire with houses in three different countries and a yearly sallary of over a million, and even when he was! in politics in the Uk he still used governmental expenses to pay for various home repairs and sent his kids to an expensive private school. Then again, in Britain at least, even if a politician sets out with good intentions they  end up just playing the parliamentary cricket match and voting according to what gives their particular team most leaverage, rather than what is actually dictated by whatever principles they were presumably illected to represent.

the only people more crooked than politicians are business owners and financiers, and generally speaking the more money  have, the more crooked they are.
If  global warming does! happen, you can bet all the rich bastards  will construct some huge  conditioned, air tight city where they'll live out their days in comfort while they buy and sell the rest of the world between them.

personally I think the French revolution had it right, what most of these scumbags need is a short sharp appointment with madame guillotine big_smile.

Anyway, good luck with the algorithms. Since I preferred ethics, aesthetics and phenomenology at uni, formal logic was the only heavily formula or tree diagram based module I did, since I didn't go heavily into advanced logic or linguistics, and of course most of my post grad work has been in ethics, (that little county in the south of England near to Suthex big_smile.
Btw, sorry if you don't get this joke. There is a county in England called Essex, which is very close to another county in the south of England called Sussex, so a common joke at uni was to say "I'm working in Ethics" big_smile.

Anyway my lady and I are off to London for a singing weekend. It should bee fun if hard work, I'm taking gethsemane from Jesus christ superstar, as well as the lamp lighter from the little prince opera, and (just for fun), no rhyme for Richard, which is a  from the musical Blondel about how prince john (the evil one from the Robin Hood story), is trying to persuade blondel, the court poet to write a ballad about him, prince John, because nothing rhymes with richard and everything rhymes with John big_smile.

since the other two are moderately serious (well Gethsemane obviously), I thought I'd take something fun.

We're also going to be doing stage combat which should be interesting.

At the end of the weekend, my lady and I are going to see the musical Wicked on Monday, the one based on the wizard of oz, its one of her absolute favourites and should be awesome, albeit annoyingly since we couldn't get to stay in London Monday night,  be coming back from London  on an eleven pm train Monday evening which will be quite nuts!

needless to say this also means I'll be off the forum for a while.

@Dark:

I know that politicians and rich people are the ones who probably come out in best shape in that kind of world. in fact, if there was some sort of world ending problem on our planet, and humans managed to get in the space, then these people would be the first ones to run first. also, I can still hope, right? its not like there is anything stopping me from doing so.

coming from a cynic like me, it sounds strange.

also, thanks for explaining the joke. I do not live in England, I probably wouldn't have understood it.

Qread is very very useful for large pdfs. I don't know how I would have gotten through university without it. Oddly, even though I don't think it can OCR, sometimes documents that are empty in adobe work fine with it. The only issue is it doesn't support tables, so when I need to deal with tables I revert to adobe. For documents that need OCR I use Abbyy FineReader, which is pretty good and usually results in something at least understandable. This only applies to regular text though, I unfortunately still don't have a solution for dealing with more visual stuff.

Well things have been a bit nuts recently.
the singing weekend was fun, if very hard work, since Gethsemane is bloody exhausting to sing once, let alone to do five different times, though I think it worked out better in the end. The stage combat was also hilarious, since you  wouldn't imagine how much fun being mock strangled by someone (actually someone sticking their hands on your chin whilst you thrash around and gurgle), happens to be big_smile.

We finished up by going to see wicked the musical, which was pretty damb awesome, although a mix up in train times meant getting back was extremely stressful and required a rush through London.

Then just to compound matters, we were going  again last weekend (friday to Sunday), to spend some time celibrating my lady's birthday, but we both got bloody awful colds, indeed this is the first day I've actually felt vaguely coherent in about a week, hence why I've been so very absent from the forum.
It was a shame really that we basically spent the entire weekend flat out and hand to cancel the really nice meal we had planned and just get pizza in our hotel room instead, but hopefully we can go out and do something special soon enough.
