I'm curious, are any mobile games or apps accessible to the blind? I would assume narrator would be key, but do any of you have any tips for dealing with touch screens? - Karen Stevens

Hi,
On iOS, there's a screen reader called VoiceOver. On Android, there's a screen reader called Android. Recently, someone made a pluggin for the unity engine called unity accessibility pluggin.

This was first debuted in the game Crafting Kingdom and works really well. However, a lot of games before that just used standard controls. Games such as the popular "A Dark Room" went even further, realizing when VoiceOver was running on the iOS version and changing the screen accordingly with a whole new interface and extra messages for blind and vi players. There is a whole games category in the iPhone section on the website called Applevis, and each one has a rating depending on if it's accessible or not. Games like Angry Birds are in the completely inaccessible rating because no one's tried to make it accessible after all these years. We don't even have any fruit ninja style of releases!

Thanks aaron. I knew about the screen readers, but was having trouble finding much beyond that.

There are some that don't use them, like a very old zombie shooter type thing called sixthsense, witch was self voiceing and required stereo headphones to play. Aside from that really, most games / apps use voiceover on ios or other readers on android or other phones. For android, there is also the screenreader talkback, though in my opinion it really isn't that great, i'd rank apple's voiceover as number 1 for phones.

Hi.
Many blind people are using both Android and IOS world wide. I don't have much experience with Android, but here you can find a lot of more information for IOS:
https://developer.apple.com/accessibility/ios/
The website called:
applevis.com
is the biggest place for information on accessible apps, forum etc.
It would be fantastic if some of your stuff could be made accessible on the mobile platforms as well.

Best regards SLJ.
Feel free to contact me privately if you have something in mind. If you do so, then please send me a mail instead of using the private message on the forum, since I don't check those very often.

Hi,
I've somehow only just found these topics.  I'm at work at the moment so can't give my full thoughts but here's a start.  Use of a touchscreen on phones has really opened up the mainstream world.  It's so wonderful to be able to tell someone where something is on the screen and have them instantly know where to look for example.  not to mention the amount of apps that help with day to day tasks.   In terms of games and accessibility, I am  an absolutely huge star wars fan for example, and would love to be able to play an official game, mobile or otherwise.

that would be so great to have on be it mobile or on computer! I've tried playing battlefront but its not really designed for audioplay unfortunately.
