Ok

guys, I'm subscribed to GMA Games' mailing list and I just received a

message from David Greenwood sent to all listers. Shades of Doom V1.2 is

almost ready. According to his message it's in its second beta testing

phase and he has just one more quick one he wants to do before making it

public. At least he said it would be a public beta. I don't know when the

actual game itself will come and he's not setting a date (most wisely in my

opinion given what always seems to happen on this forum when someone does),

but it's looking like Shades of Doom V1.2 will not be long in coming to us.

It also looks as though the game will be considerably more involved than the

current version. Monsters will behave quite a bit differently for one thing,

there are several new weapons and I guess level 9 will be totally new. There

are apparently other changes in this new version, not the least of which

being that they're apparently going to bufff up the ending of the game so

we actually get something! Woohoo! Can't wait to get my grubby little paws

on this one!

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

oh look someone's got grubby little paws. tongue. I was joking. Where

were we? Ah. Yes, I hope it'll be better. I should ask David if he can make

a version of gtc which is multi-player.

cool!  Yeah the ending was pretty dumb...took me forever to beat it

too.

Speaking of SOD, anyone gotten it to work with a joystick/gamepad.

I can't get it to work, and that was one fo the biggest reasons I bought my

gamepad, to play that game.  Maybe they'll fix that in this new version,

IMO we need more games that let you use a joystick or a gamepad, kinda makes

it a bit more fun I think.

Well,

I don't know, don't have ine. Hey, what's a gamepad like? I kinda want

want one.

Just a

warning, be careful about using the acronym for Shades of Doom. In some

countries, like Britain, it's considered an expletive.

I'm not trying

to push my dialect on you or stop you using it, but thought people should

know so they don't get confused if someone reacts oddly to it. I couldn't

believe they used the acronym for the filename...

I asked David about problems I was having with the original and joysticks

and he said (back in August) that the new version would have better handling

for gamepads and not be as sensative as it is now so it's gonna freaking

rock.

aah,

someone else noticed, the whole sod thing.
well it is a cuss word but of

very low level, something you'd say to a friend jokingly.
but i'm looking

forward to the next sod game, i hope it's a little better than the last

one.
i haven't beaten it yet but i got to like level7 was it? and

couldn't find my way out, i remember there was like a loose pipe spewing

water in the bottom right corner of the level, and the silent walker but i

couldn't find a door monsters or anything.
so i gave up and started again,

still haven't reached the end.

Level 7? If you can't find the elevator it's because its blocked by a

piece of machinery you have to blow up. You'll know the one since it's one

of only two pieces of equipment other than doors or takable objects where

the Object Locator will beep. Just whip out your knife and use it and

that'll take care of your problem. The machine's blocking the passage to

the lift so you have to blow it up.

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

Hopefully level seven should be less glitchy

(the only level that crashed my game, and it also had two unused security

chips (though I don't think one was meant to be found since it was behind a

useless door).  I think all the levels after five were where David lost

creativity; level five is just a long hallway and the last three are just

interconnected rooms (except for level eight which is a little more

interesting).  Hopefully he'll have a more inspiring name for the final

enemy than "the boss."

and if we're really lucky, maybe even a better storyline and explaination

this time around.
it could have been a tad more well done than the final

product.

yeah the ending was dodgy.  I've only made it to level 8 cuz of that

stupid teleporter issue ... that could be better explained.
i hope they

make some better weapons and has anyone else noticed the empty weapon

slot?
