Legacy - new audio game...

Hi all,

I thought you might be interested in a new audio game the company I work for (DESQ) has just developed as a co-production with the BBC. I've included below a press release the BBC produced.

Legacy

A Unique multi-platform drama for BBC Radio 7 from BBC Scotland
www.bbc.co.uk/radioscotland/legacy

A unique multi-platform drama, Legacy, produced by BBC Radio Scotland's Drama department will transmit in two-parts from Sunday, August 22 on BBC Radio 7.

Set above and below the streets of London, Legacy combines a two-part radio drama and an online adventure game to tell the story of Jules and Harry, two 20-something siblings coming to terms with their family’s shocking past.

Shortly after the death of their grandmother Rose, twins Harry and Jules are clearing out the contents of her attic prior to the arrival of the executor of her will. Stumbling around in the gloom they come across a cryptic message hidden on an old gramophone record. Speaking to them from beyond the grave, Rose tells her grandchildren that theirs is an important legacy and that only by following the clues she’s left for them will they discover the secrets hinted at in the recording.

Thoroughly familiar with Rose’s eccentricities – their own childhood was littered with the strange treasure hunts she used to set for them – the twins resolve to head off one last time and uncover their mysterious inheritance.

The Legacy game is an audio-led adventure that focuses on Harry’s adventures. It will be available on the BBC Radio Scotland website - www.bbc.co.uk/radioscotland/legacy - from Sunday 22nd August and is made by games producer DESQ. Jules’s story is told through a two-part accompanying radio drama broadcast on BBC Radio 7. The two stories interweave, supporting each other and giving new insights into the characters and locations of the Legacy universe.

The radio drama airs on BBC Radio 7 on Sunday 22nd August and Sunday 29th August at 6.30pm (repeated later at 12.30am). Both episodes will be available on the iPlayer (bbc.co.uk/iplayer) and will be broadcast again on BBC Radio Scotland on Friday 17th September and Friday 24th September at 11.30am.

Up-to-date Sound RTS documentation?

I've just downloaded the newest Sound RTS version and it's rather different from the one I had from nearly 2 years ago. It mensioned flying machines, dark archers and cannon and scout towers. These don't seem to be covered in the game's manual. Is there anywhere where I can find information on how to use them and what they do?

Wordies and Birdies

Well, in my temporary absense, several news worthy things have crawled out of the stinking sewer of general and uncoordinated smelliness known as the interweb, which always reaks of sweetness, light and the smell of possibilities!

anyway, before this metaphore gets even more mixed up, I'd better just report the current state of play.

first off, spoonbill software have released another wordy game to keep all cryptophiles happy, ---- and that's people who love words, not people who love dark, stoney places!

The game in question is bg scrabble, the classic cross word board game. The bad news is that there is no computer opponent to play against, though you can play against up to four other humans, or just on your own trying to beat your best score.

As usual if you'd like to begin word building, send your E-mail to the ever diligent and generous Ian humphries at games at spoonbillsoftware dot com dot au.

then, before we progress to flying pests, I should probably mention that Raul gillegos has reposted his collection of fantastic game recordings and walkthrus. these include full runs through shades of doom, the initial 17 lone wolf missions, pipe, pipe 2, gma tanks commander and some pinball as well!

for anyone who hasn't heard these, it's deffinately worth wrapping your lugs around it, which you can do by visiting Asmodian right here (he may be dead, but he lives on, ---- and however pathetic he was as a servant of the dark one, he plays a pretty mean game of Lone wolf! ---- appologies to those who haven't read the wheel of time series and thus have no idea what I'm talking about, ---- just put it down to the usual insane ramblings of ramblingness!).

Now, for those birdies, --- pluss eagles, hole in ones and bogies! More golf courses for Jim's golf game available in the wingcs8 file, including man vs nature (so presumably, no ladies allowd, --- which seems a trifle harsh), rock star's paradise, and the long and short of it. As always, grab it here on the kitchinsinc site

all the wratings are fairly high, so be prepared to challenge your woods and irritate your irons on this one.

Salutorious engamement.

Getting back on track,

Hi,
I have started to play fallthru and to be honest, have not got anywhere. However, I am enjoying the game.
The reason I say I haven't got anywhere i sbecause if you d a command wrong, (for example lay down enough money before you buy), the game seems to crash. I have to end the task. So i purchased a knife and axe, and then did something wrong I don't know what, and then had to start over, aah well, it's easily done again. So i haven't gotten to exploring yet. But, I am unsure what to do once I have purchased some food and such. Where should i start out? and also in the audyssey list archives it says that you can give pessants charity. would you type give 20 ralls pesant to give them money?
Thanks in advance

Another new Alpha? Again?

Well, I'm beginning to sound like Dark here, lol.

Yet another Alpha version of the fantastic and constantly-ever improving war stratigy game has just been released to the public. AT this rate, I won't be able to keep up,

SoundRTS 1.1 Alpha 2 contains loads of bug fixes since the previous version. As always, I've pasted the changelog below, with direct download links to the Windows, Mac and Linux distrobutions respectfully.

Enjoy!

Homepage:
http://jlpo.free.fr/soundrts

The main changes since 1.1 alpha 1 are:
- probably a bit faster during a game (saving and restoring a game didn't change though)
- restored queuing for "tech" upgrades
- improved game stability: some errors won't cause the entire game simulation to freeze (other errors might still slow the game down)
- bug fixed: chaining several scout towers on the same square caused the simulation to freeze
- bug fixed: in the case of a unit upgrading to another kind of unit, the cost indicated in the menu and the effective cost didn't match
- bug fixed: when upgrading a unit to another one, the food cost was too high
- bug fixed: dark archer selection now works
- bug fixed: the cheat mode works again
- bug fixed: units unloaded from a flying machine didn't attack or flee
- bug fixed: at the beginning of a game, mutually hostile units didn't attack
- bug fixed: when controlling several units, targeting a flying machine and pressing backspace only loaded one unit in the flying machine
- bug fixed: giving a "defensive mode" command to a unit caused it to forget its other commands
- bug fixed: every unit had a menace of 0 (wrong alerts, wrong AI reactions: no fleeing, probably wrong target choosing)
- bug fixed: a peasant building a farm was reported as "repairing" a construction site
- bug fixed: an evolving unit would accept the "go" command and cancel the upgrade in progress
- bug fixed: a unit without a "go" command in the menu could have this action by default
- slightly clearer sounds for the flying machine load and unload events
- graphics: added tps (turn per second) indication when ctrl-shift-f3 is active
- graphics: added color backgrounds for squares (detected, observed, observed before, unknown)

SoundRTS 1.1 and SoundRTS 1.0 should coexist in the same machine without any problem. The settings are also stored in different folders (respectively "SoundRTS unstable" and "SoundRTS 1.0").

About multiplayer games, this version is compatible with itself. Be careful, though, if you modify the rules.txt file, you need to send it to your friends if you want to play with them or they won't find your server.

Direct link to Windows package:
http://jlpo.free.fr/soundrts/soundrts-1.1-a2-en.exe

Direct link to Mac and Linux package (make sure to read the provided ReadMe.txt file):
http://jlpo.free.fr/soundrts/soundrts-1.1-a2-en.zip

Help with Internet Explorer 8

Hi!
I have had some wierd problems with internet explorer 8. When I open Internet Explorer, it just doesn't work. Then I can't exit it; I just get that exit now dialogue box. I have tried resetting the settings like it says somewhere via Inetcpl.cpl or whatever as it says somewhere, I have tried reinstalling wich was no luck, but nothing worked. I had firefox too wich works for me, but there are things that I'd need Iexplore to do. By the way, I know that the instructions I read were for Internet Explorer 7, but isn't there supposed to be another dialogue box when I click reset advanced settings? I'm expecting the instructions to be a bit out of date, but it struck me as odd. There were no instructions for Internet Explorer and Windows XP, just IE 7 and XP or IE 8 and Windows 7 or Vista. I haven't tried degrading, but I suspect it won't work. I was going to try that, just haven't done it yet. I've managed to learn Firefox more, wich is good in this huge problem, but there's still that thing with flash. Some things work, but most doesn't, including some flashgames. The actual youtube site isn't working, but the accessible interface does and it's just watching that doesn't work on the original. That means that uploading works, wich is what I need... that and comment... so that's kind of fixed. Sorry for this incredibly long post...
