Hi!
I have had some wierd problems with internet explorer 8. When I open Internet Explorer, it just doesn't work. Then I can't exit it; I just get that exit now dialogue box. I have tried resetting the settings like it says somewhere via Inetcpl.cpl or whatever as it says somewhere, I have tried reinstalling wich was no luck, but nothing worked. I had firefox too wich works for me, but there are things that I'd need Iexplore to do. By the way, I know that the instructions I read were for Internet Explorer 7, but isn't there supposed to be another dialogue box when I click reset advanced settings? I'm expecting the instructions to be a bit out of date, but it struck me as odd. There were no instructions for Internet Explorer and Windows XP, just IE 7 and XP or IE 8 and Windows 7 or Vista. I haven't tried degrading, but I suspect it won't work. I was going to try that, just haven't done it yet. I've managed to learn Firefox more, wich is good in this huge problem, but there's still that thing with flash. Some things work, but most doesn't, including some flashgames. The actual youtube site isn't working, but the accessible interface does and it's just watching that doesn't work on the original. That means that uploading works, wich is what I need... that and comment... so that's kind of fixed. Sorry for this incredibly long post...

Pontes Keyboard, test your reaction and typing speed

After some weeks of work, I finished Pontes Keyboard 1.0.
Pontes Keyboard is a program which allows you to test your reaction and typing speed.
It is programmed in BGT, the tool created by Blastbay Studios for C++ code especially for audio games.

Download Pontes Keyboard 1.0 English

The program consists of two main sections:
- Reaction Speed Test, shortly RST, and
- Typing Speed Test, shortly TST.
There are also other 3 sections: Training Mode, Encyclopedia and Settings.

The program is Sapi5 voice based, you don't need the screen reader to use it.

Training Mode
In Training Mode you can learn the keyboard layout, all characters are pronounced when you press the corresponding key.
It is an useful tool to see where the letters and signs are situated, and it's also a good way to get accustomed with the characters pronouncing for Reaction Speed Test.

Reaction Speed Test (RST)
In Reaction Speed Test you choose which keys you want to try, All Keys, Digits, Lowercase, Uppercase, or Signs. After choosing, you must press the key you hear, as soon as possible.
Finally, the computer will calculate the speed average in seconds and milliseconds. To be evaluated, it is necessary to press correctly a minimum percent of all keys asked by the computer. The minimum percentage can be modified in Settings and it can have a value between 50% and 100%; by default, the value is 75%.
In settings you also can set the number of characters to be asked by computer, by default the value is 30 characters per a test.
For average reaction speed time, only the right answers are considered.
Every time a new speed record is saved for each kind of characters you test.

Typing Speed Test (TST)
In Typing Speed Test you can test, of course, your typing speed.
There are three ways to test the speed:

1. Free Typing
You may type everything you want.
Finally the computer says your speed in Words per Minute (WPM) and Characters per Minute (CPM).
To be evaluated, it is necessary that the text you type to contain maximum 1000 characters, and the minimum number of characters can be chosen in Settings (by default it is 50).
In settings you can choose also an action to be performed after typing, by default it is “Just say speed results”, this can be combined with other actions like: Copy text to clipboard, Say the text typed or Copy and Say the text. Copy text to clipboard is a good way to check the spelling and grammar errors in the text typed, pasting it into a word processor.

2. Type a text written before
You type a text, and after you must type again the same text. The typing speed is calculated, of course, for the second typing. It is necessary that both texts are typed identically.
The text length and the action after typing are the same as for Free Typing.

3. Type Random Words Chosen by Computer
By default, you must type 10 groups of 3 words. The group of words is first spoken by computer, and after you must type the groups starting with Space, and using Spaces between them. When you press the space after last word, another group of 3 words will be spoken by computer.
If you don't know the spelling of a word, you can press the number keys 1, 2 or 3 to hear it letter by letter. If you want to hear again the group of words, you can press R key to repeat it before typing.
For typing speed results, only the right written word are considered.
You can choose the number of groups and words in Settings. The minimum is 5 groups with 2 words, the maximum is 15 groups with 7 words.
You can also set if you want to hear or not different beeps if a word is written correctly or wrongly.

View Records
You can view the records for each test you did. Choose for instance “RST Lowercase Record”, and the best reaction speed for lowercase is spoken.
You have also an option to copy all the records in clipboard, after you can paste them into your word processor; this is like a report for all tests you tried at least one time.
You can also reset all records.

Encyclopedia
Encyclopedia is a section where there is an article about typing extracted from Wikipedia. You can use down arrow to move one section forward, right arrow to move one sentence forward, left arrow to return to the beginning of the current section, and up arrow to return to the beginning of the article.

Settings
In this section you can set different parameters for the program.
When you choose an option, use the arrow keys to change values and Enter Key to save them.
If you don't press Enter to save a new setting and you exit the option using Escape Key, a new value is available until you close the program.
There is also an option to restore all settings to default.

Our Team
Pontes Keyboard was created by Pontes IT Department:
- Programmer: Emanuel Boboiu;
- Tester: Sorin Ţaţa;

Pontes is an association in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Download Pontes Keyboard 1.0 English

I've included below a press release the BBC produced.

Legacy

A Unique multi-platform drama for BBC Radio 7 from BBC Scotland
www.bbc.co.uk/radioscotland/legacy

A unique multi-platform drama, Legacy, produced by BBC Radio Scotland's Drama department will transmit in two-parts from Sunday, August 22 on BBC Radio 7.

Set above and below the streets of London, Legacy combines a two-part radio drama and an online adventure game to tell the story of Jules and Harry, two 20-something siblings coming to terms with their family’s shocking past.

Shortly after the death of their grandmother Rose, twins Harry and Jules are clearing out the contents of her attic prior to the arrival of the executor of her will. Stumbling around in the gloom they come across a cryptic message hidden on an old gramophone record. Speaking to them from beyond the grave, Rose tells her grandchildren that theirs is an important legacy and that only by following the clues she’s left for them will they discover the secrets hinted at in the recording.

Thoroughly familiar with Rose’s eccentricities – their own childhood was littered with the strange treasure hunts she used to set for them – the twins resolve to head off one last time and uncover their mysterious inheritance.

The Legacy game is an audio-led adventure that focuses on Harry’s adventures. It will be available on the BBC Radio Scotland website - www.bbc.co.uk/radioscotland/legacy - from Sunday 22nd August and is made by games producer DESQ. Jules’s story is told through a two-part accompanying radio drama broadcast on BBC Radio 7. The two stories interweave, supporting each other and giving new insights into the characters and locations of the Legacy universe.

The radio drama airs on BBC Radio 7 on Sunday 22nd August and Sunday 29th August at 6.30pm (repeated later at 12.30am). Both episodes will be available on the iPlayer (bbc.co.uk/iplayer) and will be broadcast again on BBC Radio Scotland on Friday 17th September and Friday 24th September at 11.30am.
